Freedom With Limits

Censorship

"It would send students off into a frenzy of protests at school."
- Justice Hugo Black's Dissent
Even today, students’ free speech rights remain controversial.  Fearing loss of discipline, Justice Hugo Black dissented participation of immature students in politics and policies. Three Supreme Court cases thereafter have limited students’ free speech involving lewd language and drug-themed banner but never overruled the Tinker’s decision, which remains a precedent for future cases.
