Today, both Mary Beth and John Tinker are advocating for youth voice and standing up with many students as "friends" in courts to protect students’ First Amendment rights.

In 1993, all three received the prestigious Earl Warren Civil Liberties Award. Mary Beth Tinker has earned several awards including the 2001 Marshall Brennan Annual Youth Advocacy award and 2003 Lifetime achievement award from AEJMC. In 2006, the ACLU National Board of Directors renamed the Annual Youth Affairs Award - the Mary Beth Tinker Youth Involvement Award in recognition of her efforts.
On September 17, 2013, Mary Beth Tinker started the “Tinker Tour” in a nationwide effort to educate students on First Amendment rights and to encourage students' participation in peaceful discussions.
